SEATBELT SAFETY
Seat belts save lives. The Performance Tyres & More team are licensed to fit seatbelts – we’ll ensure that all the components are working as they should.
Quick Tips for Seat Belt Safety
- If a belt is not in good condition replace it. Ask Performance Tyres & More to check the belts for you.
- Inspect the webbing (belt material) for fraying or cuts. A small cut can halve the strength of the webbing. Long term exposure to the Australian sun can also cause deterioration and discolouration, weakening the webbing.
- Ensure that components designed to swivel freely, such as shoulder guides, are not tight or jammed and check retractable belts for spring return. When pulled and released the belts should fully retract smoothly and not leave any excess hanging free. Test the retractor locks up when applying a sharp tub to the belt. It should lock up before 5 cm is pulled out.
- Ensure the buckle and tongue engagement is firm and positive. The release button should not jam in the cover.
